Rocannon's World

An ethnologist for the human alliance "League of all Worlds", Gaverel Rocannon, arrives on a planet with medieval civilizations to study its peoples. Soon after, exploitative developers arrive, cutting him off from help. With the help of his newly-found allies, he makes a journey across continents to infiltrate their camps and use the their ansible to call secretly for help.

Motifs

• Ansible (Faster than Light Communication)

  The word ansible was coined for this novel. While humans cannot travel faster than light, but can communicate over long distances with text instantly.

• Faster than Light Travel (FTL)

  Humans cannot travel faster than light, but probes can. The League of All Worlds sends an orbital strike via a probe after learning about the invasion of Rocannon's World.

• Orbital Strike

  The League of All Worlds deploys a drone that destroys all the equipment and personnel of the invading force via an orbital strike.
